Once the summer residence of the prince bishops of Tyrol, today Brunico Castle hosts the Messner Mountain Museum Ripa. In the renovated and partly newly built exhibition spaces, extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner dedicates himself to mountain populations from all over the world.

The fascination for the mountains has been intact since time immemorial.

With LUMEN, this charm finds its photographic home: on the top of Plan de Corones (in Alto Adige), the 1800 square meters of the museum are in fact entirely dedicated to mountain photography.

In the spaces that extend across four floors, LUMEN makes tangible the history of mountain photography from its beginnings to today, and the art of mountain photographers from all over the world.

Lake Braies, in Alto Adige, is an emerald set among the peaks of the Dolomites. One of the places in the Pusteria Valley, 28 kilometers from Brunico, that are not easily forgotten: waters with green-turquoise shades, wooden boats that seem almost suspended on the surface of the water and, all around, fir forests and majestic mountains , including the Twelve Apostles and the Croda del Becco.

In the Messner Mountain Museum Corones, located on the Plan de Corones plateau at 2,275 meters above sea level, Reinhold Messner focuses on traditional mountaineering. The fluid forms of the building enter into a dialogue with external conditions. The idea was to create a place of silence, deceleration, a space for retreat and experience. 

The ECK presents itself as a dynamic meeting place with culture in the broadest sense, where exchange and communication between artists and artists with the public are promoted.
